By Anonymous Rapid City, SD January 2, 2004--Before you use the weather forecast you just got from the Internet, check with board-certified meteorologist Chris S. Orr. Whether you are using the forecast for personal recreation or business, Chris Orr and other Rapid Weather meteorologists can tell you if the forecast is the most current.
Chris Orr, a Certified Consulting Meteorologist, has been forecasting the weather for over 20 years. Much of that time has been spent as a consultant for specialized industries, including aviation, construction, power companies, outdoor events and movie production. His company, Rapid Weather, has launched a new service that combines personalized weather forecasts with customer service.
According to Orr, "Weather information found on the Internet lacks customer service. When you type in a zip code to get a weather forecast, you have no way of telling how old the information is. Most Internet weather forecasts are at least 3- to 6-hours old. You are lucky if it is an hour old."
Rapid Weather's "Personal Forecast Service" provides customers with the most current forecast possible. A customer calls, e-mails or sends an instant message to Rapid Weather requesting a weather forecast. A meteorologist prepares and sends a forecast to the customer in a matter of minutes, using text-messaging, e-mail, fax or instant messaging. The service is not free, but Orr says that customer service and the assurance of a current forecast is worth the cost.
Chris Orr has owned Rapid Weather since 2001, training meteorologists how to forecast the weather and serving as an expert witness in meteorology. He works part-time for local television station KOTA and writes a weekly column for the Rapid City Journal. He has 24 years of experience in site-specific weather forecasting for agriculture, aviation, construction, power companies, highway commissions and individuals. He has also served as an expert witness in a number of legal cases.
Mr. Orr is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist, one of fewer than 650 meteorologists who have achieved that designation from the American Meteorological Society. He is also a charter member of the National Weather Association. Rapid Weather is a member of the Commercial Weather Services Association.
Accessibility and expertise are unique and important aspects of Rapid Weather's services.
